In late 2021 Tesla renamed the Standard Range Plus simply "Model 3 RWD" and swapped in a 60 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate pack from CATL. The chemistry change mattered: LFP tolerates daily 100% charging, so the 272-mile EPA rating was all usable, every day.

This was the volume Model 3 through 2022 and most of 2023, bridging the gap between the SR+ era and the Highland refresh. Millions of LFP-pack Teslas later, it marked the start of Tesla's two-chemistry strategy: iron for range-adequate base cars, nickel for the long-haul trims.
