The 2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD was a sedan produced from 2017 to 2019. It features a single motor (permanent magnet) RWD powertrain. EPA-rated range is 310 miles with 130 MPGe. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Top speed is 140 mph. Manufactured at Fremont, CA.
This is the Model 3 that actually shipped first. When deliveries began on July 28, 2017, every car rolling off the Fremont line was a Long Range, rear-wheel-drive variant with the 75 kWh battery pack. Tesla needed the higher margins to survive what Musk called "production hell."
The single-motor RWD layout made it the most efficient Model 3 configuration, and the rear-drive balance gave it genuinely fun handling. This trim was discontinued once the dual-motor AWD Long Range arrived, making it something of a short-lived classic among early adopters. It proved Tesla could build a sedan at scale.
