The 2016 Tesla Model S 90D was a sedan produced from 2015 to 2017. It features a dual motor (ac induction) AWD powertrain. EPA-rated range is 294 miles with 104 MPGe. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph. Manufactured at Fremont, CA.
The 2016 90D arrived alongside a significant exterior refresh. Tesla replaced the black nosecone with a body-colored fascia, giving the Model S a cleaner, more modern look. Under the skin, a 90 kWh battery replaced the old 85, and Autopilot hardware jumped to HW2 with Tesla's own vision suite, replacing the Mobileye system.
HEPA filtration and "Bioweapon Defense Mode" became available, a feature Tesla demonstrated by parking a Model X inside a bubble filled with pollution. The 90D was the sensible choice in the facelifted lineup: plenty of range, AWD, and all the new tech, without the Performance price tag.
