The P85D was a landmark car. It combined 691 horsepower from two AC induction motors and introduced "Insane Mode" to the dual-motor platform. But the bigger story came later: in July 2015, Tesla offered a $10,000 Ludicrous Mode upgrade that replaced the main fuse with a smart pack contactor, allowing higher current draw and a 3.0-second 0-60.

This was the first Tesla to offer Ludicrous Mode, a feature that would define the brand's performance identity for years. The P85D also made headlines when it earned a Consumer Reports score so high they had to adjust their rating system.
