The 2015 Tesla Model S 85D was a sedan produced from 2014 to 2016. It features a dual motor (ac induction) AWD powertrain. EPA-rated range is 270 miles with 93 MPGe. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph. Manufactured at Fremont, CA.
The 85D paired the larger 85 kWh battery with Tesla's new dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. It debuted in late 2014 and offered 270 miles of range, the best in the non-performance lineup at the time. The second motor on the front axle gave it better traction in poor weather and slightly improved highway efficiency.
Compared to the 70D, the 85D was the sweet spot: more range, more power, and optional Autopilot HW1. It didn't have the raw speed of the P85D, but most owners didn't need a sub-4-second 0-60. They needed 270 miles of real-world range, and this delivered.
