In August 2023 Tesla revived an old trick: sell the same car with part of the battery switched off. The Model X Standard Range used the full Palladium hardware but capped range at 269 miles, in exchange for an $88,490 price that undercut the Long Range by $10,000.

It lasted into 2024 before quietly disappearing, the same arc as its Model S counterpart. Performance hardly suffered; the software lock mostly affected how far you could go between Superchargers.
