The P90D was the Model X you ordered if patience wasn't your thing. As the performance launch variant, it came standard with Ludicrous Mode, making it the quickest SUV money could buy in 2016. The "P" prefix carried the same weight here as it did on the Model S, signaling dual motors tuned for maximum output rather than range.
This was Tesla's statement piece at launch, the version reviewers got, and the one that generated those viral videos of three-row SUVs embarrassing sports cars at drag strips. An optional Ludicrous Speed upgrade pushed the current limits of the battery pack's contactors, shaving precious tenths off the 0-60 time. It set the template for every performance SUV Tesla would build after.
