The 2020 Tesla Model Y Performance AWD was an SUV produced from 2020 to 2024. It features a dual motor (permanent magnet + ac induction) AWD powertrain. EPA-rated range is 303 miles with 117 MPGe. The Performance Model Y launched alongside the Long Range in 2020, applying the same formula Tesla used on the Model 3: bigger brakes, lower suspension, Track Mode, and more power from the dual motors. It sat on 21-inch Überturbine wheels that looked great but made the ride noticeably firmer on rough roads.
A crossover SUV with a sub-3.5-second 0-60 time was a strange proposition in 2020, but buyers loved it. The extra performance cost relatively little over the Long Range trim, and you didn't sacrifice much daily practicality. It proved that even in the utilitarian crossover segment, Tesla could make speed the default rather than the exception.
