The 2022 Tesla Semi 500-Mile Range is a semi truck in production since 2022. It features a tri motor (permanent magnet) RWD powertrain. EPA-rated range is 500 miles. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 20 seconds. Top speed is 65 mph. Manufactured at Sparks, NV (Gigafactory Nevada).
The long-range Semi targets the routes that matter most to fleet operators. With a 500-mile range at gross vehicle weight, it can cover most single-day freight runs without stopping to charge. PepsiCo took delivery of the first units in December 2022, putting them to work hauling Frito-Lay chips on a 425-mile route from Sacramento to San Diego.
Tesla claims energy consumption of about 1.7 kWh per mile when loaded to 81,000 lbs. The truck uses Tesla's custom battery cells and a triple-motor rear axle setup. Megacharger stations capable of adding 400 miles in 30 minutes are part of the long-term infrastructure plan.
